Common Questions
We understand that starting therapy can raise many questions. Here are answers to the most frequent inquiries about our process and what to expect during your journey with us.
What can we expect in the first therapy session?
In our initial consultation, we focus on creating a safe space for you or your child. We will discuss your concerns, personal history, and goals for therapy. This session is primarily about building a foundation of trust and outlining a collaborative path forward.
How long does a typical course of therapy last?
The length of your therapy depends entirely on unique requirements and aims. Many clients find relief through specific, short-term interventions across several months, while others choose deeper, ongoing self-discovery. I consistently assess progress with you to keep every session meaningful.
How do you balance parent involvement with a child’s need for privacy in therapy?
At the heart of my work with children is their need for a safe, supportive space. Our sessions are confidential, and I always aim for a sensitive middle ground—protecting your child’s private therapy space while offering you guidance and support where it’s helpful. If something important comes up that I feel you should know about, I’ll talk this through with your child first and, wherever possible, we’ll agree together how to share it.
Do you provide specialised support for teenagers?
Yes, I specialise in adolescent therapy, addressing unique challenges such as identity formation, academic stress, social anxiety, and emotional regulation. My approach is developmentally tailored to respect their autonomy while providing the professional support they need.
